Q: What does MBAcC stand for?
A: Member of the British Acupuncture Council. This is the umbrella organisation under which fully qualified Acupuncturists are registered in the UK. The BAcC ensures that all its members have an extensive three year undergraduate training at specialist colleges. They must carry out hygiene procedures approved by the Department of Health and are expected to maintain strict codes of Ethics, Safe Practice and Confidentiality.
As Acupuncturists we are all encouraged to accomplish Continual Professional Development(CPD) at all times.
Q: Is it Safe?
A: There have been a number of surveys in the last few years which have shown that acupuncture is amongst the safest therapies in use in the UK today. It has less side effects and fewer adverse reactions than conventional medication.
Q: What do the needles feel like?
A: Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, unlike those that you normally encounter at your Doctor or Dentist's. As the needle is inserted, the acupuncture point can often feel warm, or glowing, which indicates that treatment is working.
Q: Should I tell my Doctor?
A: If you are receiving treatment from your doctor then it is advisable to tell him or her about your plans to have acupuncture.
Q: What should I do before treatment?
A: It is best not to have acupuncture on a completely empty stomach.
You should avoid alcohol immediatly prior to treatment.
Q: Does my Health Insurance cover Acupuncture?
A: Yes most health schemes now include acupuncture treatments in their policy document. It is advisable to check this with your insurance company first.
